When you make a card transaction, it may first appear as "Pending" in your account. The merchant must then "settle the transaction" to finalize the payment.
Settlement refers to the final outcome of a transaction, where the status changes from **Pending** to either:
- Cleared – the merchant successfully completes the payment and the funds are finalized.
- Declined/Rejected – the merchant does not complete the settlement within the allowed timeframe, and the transaction is automatically closed.
Below are the standard settlement timeframes:
| Transactions Under $1,000
Transactions under $1,000 typically settle within "5 business days", but in some cases may take "up to 14 business days".
If the merchant does not complete settlement within this timeframe, the "transaction will automatically be closed", and the "funds will be released back to your available balance" so they can be used again.
| Transactions Over $1,000
Transactions over $1,000 usually settle within "5 business days", but may take "up to 31 business days" depending on the merchant.
If the merchant does not complete settlement within this timeframe, the "transaction will automatically be closed", and the "funds will be returned to your available balance".
